Timing Your Filter Changes with Pollen Waves

Most homeowners change air filters on arbitrary calendar dates. A far more effective strategy is timing filter replacements to precede regional botanical pollen explosions.

  • Early Spring (March): Install a fresh MERV 11 or 13 filter before tree pollen (oak, birch, cedar) peaks.
  • Late Summer (August): Replace the filter right before ragweed and weed pollens surge.
  • Late Fall (November): Put in a clean filter for heating season to capture indoor dust and winter furnace soot.
